Curiosity and Discovery as the Foundation of Learning

WELCOME

My name is Lela Woods. I am seeking a position as an early childhood educator.   Fascinated by the learning process; I enjoy the collaborative nature of teaching.

Thank you for taking a few moments of your time to view this portfolio as way of introducing my classroom philosophy and vision of education.

As a professional educator I view the student’s interest as the stepping stones  of  engaged learning.  This is the path to their future as they become authors, astronomers and others, whose occupations are yet to be defined.

I believe Special Education is about instruction designed to meet the learning needs of all students.

In each of the National Standards to the left you will find pictures and lesson plans from my classroom participation.  Most I have authored, a few are examples that reflect my experience and philosophy.

I am active in professional development opportunities through the Council for Exceptional Children (CEC) and the Association of Texas Professional Educators (ATPE).

When not in class I walk our dogs, read and travel with my family.  I enjoy my naturalized garden and backyard pond.

Curiosity and Discovery, the Foundations of Learning

It seems to me curiosity and its companion discovery, is basic to the human condition. It is where we find the most unifying connection to other living systems and what ultimately separates us.
